Expert calls for Simplify Legal Procedure in Nigeria

A Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adichie says there is urgent need to simplify legal procedures in the country through the use of modern technology.

Adichie made this known while delivering a Keynote address at the 62nd edition of the Nigerian Bar Association Conference held in Lagos.

Chimamanda Adichie said by simplifying legal procedures in the country, the nation’s wheels of justice would run efficiently .

Speaking on the state of the nation’s economy however, she said that Nigeria is undergoing serious challenges that required urgent attention from leaders that were capable of taking bold steps to fix it.

Chimamanda Adichie therefore, charged the Nigerian Bar Association to come up with strategies that could be used in saving the nation from its challenges.

Speaking at a plenary session with a theme: “Democratic Transitions in 21st Century Nigeria: 2023 and Beyond”, the Presdiential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, says that he believes that so much power resides at the federal level compared to the state and local government levels. A situation he says does not augur well for the nation’s development.

Alhaji Abubakar added that the unity of Nigeria would only be sustained when people from different parts of the country were given a sense of belonging.

On his part, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi says Nigeria as a nation needs help and as such required those with great commitment and vision to bring the nation back to an envisble track.

Also speaking at the event, the All Progressive Congress, APC, Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu stated that the strategy that he adopted when he was the governor of Lagos State which made the state the economic hub of the nation could still be replicated at the federal level to bring the nation to an enviable height among the committee of nations.

Other notable personalities at the conference include the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, and Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Alogba Kazeem, who was a past president of the Nigerian Bar Association.

The event which drew lawyers from across the country has as its theme, “BOLD Transitions”.

It is expected to last till August 26 offering a platform for engagement on national issues.
