NBA AGC 2022: Maikyau pledges sustenance of lawyers welfare

The President elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) M Yakubu Maikyau SAN on Tuesday in Lagos, said that his administration will ensure adequate welfare of lawyers.

Maikyau made this known at the 62nd edition of the Annual General Conference of the NBA.

The conference themed “Bold Transitions” is holding at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island

Speaking at the plenary session tagged “NBA In Transition: Conversation with the NBA Presidents”Maikyau said that his administration will ensure a better and improved welfare package for legal practitioners

He thanked members of the bar for electing him as president and for also participating in the election inspite of it being an online voting, and undertook to uphold the rule of law.

Maikyau also promised to uphold the legacy built by his predecessors in office, especially the Olumide Akpata’s led administration, which he noted had done well.

“I will ensure that I give welfare packages to all our members and my administration will build on what my predecessors have done.

“There is nothing that will deter me from continuing in what our fathers have laid down”

“My administration will be fair to all and treat everyone equally no matter who it is,” he said

In line with the 2022 conference theme , Maikyau therefore, reiterated boldly to uphold decision making process, as well as improve and encourage health insurance for all members,

He also urged members to participate in the affairs of the association and boldly lay their complaints when necessary.

“I thank my predecessors for maintaining transparency in justice delivery and my administration will build on these legacies,” he said

On his part the outgoing NBA President Olumide Akpata while noting that his administration had maintained an effective secretariat, and better remuneration, he urged the incoming president to continue with the set legacy.

The session had in attendance past presidents of the NBA like , Mr Paul Usoro, SAN and Mr A.B Mahmoud, SAN.
